As the colorful Pride Month continues to rage on, numerous festivities are bringing the masses out in support of the LGBTQ community. Plans are underway for a historic LA Pride Parade to take over Hollywood Sunday, June 12. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

“Post pandemic we are so excited to have people to come out and take part in Pride activities,” said Courtney Jones, an LGBTQ advocate, based in Los Angeles. “It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this much anticipation and support and people are just happy to be out again,” Jones said.

Authorities are trying to get the word out that street closures will cause delays for Sunday’s Pride Parade. The LAPD Hollywood Police Division issued a traffic advisory on Friday in regards to the parade.

LAPD said that areas around the parade route should be avoided to prevent travel delays. The division said that Hollywood Boulevard will be closed from Highland Avenue to Vine Street.

Motorists should also consider the following closures:

  • Cahuenga Boulevard will be closed between Yucca Street to Sunset Boulevard.
  • Highland Avenue will be closed from Hollywood Boulevard to Sunset Boulevard.
  • Sunset Boulevard will be closed from Highland Avenue to Vine Street (4 a.m. — 4 p.m.)
  • Hollywood Boulevard will remain closed between Cahuenga Boulevard to Vine Street from 12:01 a.m. to 11:50 p.m., Sunday June 12, 2022.

NOTE: Selma Avenue will be open to outgoing and residential traffic only.

What is Pride Month?

“Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan,” says the Library of Congress.

Today, celebrations include pride parades, block parties, political marches, workshops, concerts, and memorials held during this month to honor those who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS.
